Our History

Eikos was established in 1999 by founding CEO Tony Valsamakis, after he identified a gap in the insurance buying cycle, to help clients optimise their cost of risk through better understanding of risk parameters and financing options.

Eikos was established to give expression to this concept of the integration of risk and insurance – coined as Integrated Risk and Insurance Strategy (IRIS) by the founding Eikos team.

In building its initial structure, Eikos incorporated Norfolk Re, a Bermudan insurer providing bespoke risk financing solutions utilising cell captive technology. Through Norfolk, Eikos is able to offer a broad range of insurance and reinsurance solutions to support client insurance structuring requirements as part of the consultancy offering. Today, Norfolk Re remains a close partner of the business.

Eikos initially established offices in London, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Within just five years of establishing the business, Eikos had become the predominant player in the Marine broking sector in South Africa, pioneering freight forwarding solutions in the transportation sector. The brand was further enhanced by the establishment of what was termed ‘the portfolio approach to risk’ and building a client base of several international clients across Europe, UK, USA and Australia.

In 2016 the business expanded further, supporting clients globally. Today, Eikos’s Johannesburg office continues to provide a conduit to support several South African-based clients with an international footprint, supported by its headquarters in the global financial centre of London alongside an additional office in Paris.

In its current configuration, Eikos is extending its reach further, providing bespoke innovative solutions to complex insurance problems in an increasingly volatile world. Eikos continues to grow and evolve but retains its ethos as an independent and management-owned business.
